Arduino is a wonderful creation of modern electronics.
Now a days almost every electronics hardware can be designed using arduino.
Specially PLC based automation can be designed with arduino. Again Arduino is
very suitable for making simple Electronics project. Today I will show you how
to make a Digital Thermometer using
Arduino and LM35 Temperature sensor.
Digital Thermometer is a such kind of device which can
measure the temperature and can display it digitally. For making a digital
thermometer we will use a sensor, An arduino board, And a Display. Sensor will
helps us to receive the temperature from environment, Arduino will collect the
data from sensor and process the data to calculate the temperature and Display
will be used to show the temperature to user.
If you want to know more about arduino then read this
article:
What is Arduino? What can we do with Arduino?
What is Arduino? What can we do with Arduino?
For making a Digital Thermometer we need all the
components given below:
- Arduino Uno R3
- LM35 Temperature Sensor
- Some Jumper Wire
- 16x2 LCD Display
- 1Pcs 10K Variable Resistor
- A Breadboard
Let’s start to make the digital thermometer. I will show
all the process step by step. Follow this full tutorial to make your own
Digital Thermometer.
Components Connection:
At first we need to connect all the components. For
connecting them I will use a breadboard. It will help us to connect all
components easily. I will connect all the components as the circuit diagram. I
have share the circuit diagram below.
I am using a 10K Variable Resistor with the lcd display
to control the brightness of display. Here is the connection of the variable
resistor:
LCD Connection:
LCD Pin 1, Pin 5 and Pin 16 will connect with GND
LCD Pin 2 and Pin 15
will connect with VCC
LCD Pin 3 will connect with the output of the variable
resistor
LCD Pin 4 will connect with Arduino Pin 8
LCD Pin 6 will connect with Arduino Pin 9
LCD Pin 11 will connect with Arduino Pin 10
LCD Pin 12 will connect with Arduino Pin 11
LCD Pin 13 will connect with Arduino Pin 12
LCD Pin 14 will connect with Arduino Pin 13
[Note: LCD Pin 7 to Pin 10 not using here]
Sensor Connection:
The LM35 Temperature has 3 Pins. The first pin will
connect with VCC and third pin Connect with GND. The middle pin will connect
with Arduino Analog Pin A0.
So our final circuit
will look like this:
Ok now it’s time to upload the sketch file in Arduino. You
can download the file from below:
If you upload the code in your arduino board arduino will
starts to measure the temperature of environment.
I have also shown the full process in this video.
If you want to make a
permanent temperature meter then you can use a PCB (Printed Circuit Board).
If you want to learn how to make a pcb at home then
follow this video: How to make a PCB ( Printed Circuit Board ) at home [Step by Step Full Porcess]
Ok, that’s ends today. I hope everyone will be able to
make your own digital thermometer. If you have any question about this tutorial
then feel free to ask me. I shall try my best to help you.
